Did you know that one upon a time, I was a club DJ? Not only that, but I got my start playing drum and bass in the clubs around Jacksonville, Florida in the early 2000’s. You’re right, that’s a pretty long ways from being a wedding DJ, but you know what? It still influences the way I play today in a big way.
I found this mix this weekend while I was cleaning up my iTunes database. It was unlabeled, so I’m not really sure when I made it. My guess is somewhere around 2007. I dug pretty deep into my record crates to make this one with a few tunes being from the very beginning of LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records catalogue along with some of my other favorite artists like Blame, who incidentally, DJ’d by birthday back in 2004.
Take a listen!
Well, the holiday season is upon us! With the last wedding of the year in the rearview mirror, it’s time for the holiday parties. This year, we started with an awesome show for Blue Nile at Olive 8 in downtown Seattle. Continue reading
It’s that time of year again! Time to wrap up and look at the year behind us before the new year begins. Of course, this means lots of top such and such lists of the year. 2013 was an incredible year for music and looking back has me totally blown away by how many great albums came out this year!
KEXP has been running their top 10 lists for the last week or so and taking votes from their listeners to compile their top 90.3 albums of 2013. Of course I had to play along! Here’s my list: Continue reading
If you’re from anywhere near Bainbridge Island, you know Islandwood. If you don’t know, it’s a 225 acre outdoor education center here on Bainbridge that just happens to be an amazing combination of green architecture and the outdoors with just the right amount of nod towards Washington history mixed in. As a bonus to us, Lisa was one of the graduate students there in 2008. Continue reading
Sometimes you just feel like you’ve got a client pegged musically. Well, that was this weekend for sure!
From the first client meeting, I knew that I was gonna get along with the couple famously. They were a little (a lot) nerdy, really musical, and of course they found us on Offbeat Bride. Yep, awesome wedding for sure. Continue reading
So, I finally got the chance to play a wedding at the Manor House! If you didn’t know, Bainbridge Island has been sorely lacking in the event space category for a long time now. Just last year, the Manor House opened up in Pleasant Beach and I’ve been itching to work there since I first saw it being remodeled. Of course, I got lots of opportunities to see it during many dinners across the street at Treehouse Cafe. That area is also one of my favorite run spots since it’s exactly a 10k when you run from Treehouse to Toe Jam Hill and back AND when you get done, there’s Treehouse waiting for you!
First off, it’s gorgeous inside. They’ve done an amazing job remodeling inside and the furniture, outdoor gardens, outdoor dining area complete with a fireplace and canopy and the open ceilings with exposed beams inside make for a great atmosphere inside and out. Continue reading
Sometimes, well a lot of times, it’s amazing to live in the state of Washington. Last year, we passed Referendum 74, making is one of the first two states to legalize same sex marriage! Almost immediately, we started getting calls about dj’ing same sex weddings, and we couldn’t have been more excited! Continue reading
Every once in a while, you have a wedding at the right venue with the right couple and the right guests. Well, that was last night!
